PART ONE OFF A THREE PART
SERIES:
This title is from an article by Marty
Becker, DVM in the Journal of Veterinary Economics, 2/02. This
story explains the scientific evidence that our pets do more for us
than we could have imagined: Beyond being a companion, our pets
help us to interact socially, blunt our pain and keep us moving;
Just to list a few. After petting, hugging or kissing our pets we
have a surge of positive hormones in our body. This leads to a
calming effect-lowering blood pressure, lessening chronic pain and
of cause, bringing a smile to our face.
Our pets bring nature into our lives;
especially in our modern urban environments. A dog can take you to
the park, take your mind off your busy schedule, and help you to
meet a new friend. Forget Yourself, stop brooding and lessen your
depression for you have a pet to feed and a litter box to empty. In
fact, tests have shown that a pet -dog or cat equally, lowers
stress more than having a spouse!
Those who wish to know more about the
benefits of having a pet can read: The Healing Power of Pets by Dr.
Marty Becker; published by Hyperion.
